Oklahoma Heat

I read a headline in the paper this morning that said, When the heat hits Oklahoma, there's nowhere to go but in.  July and August are bruttle months of the year if you live in this part of the U.S.  We finally reached 100 degrees yesterday and these temps are to continue through this coming week. The humidity is what takes your breath away. If the humidity is low, then the high temps are bearable but if the humidity is high, then it's a different story. Journalist on the news are constantly telling people to keep hydrated and to check on the elderly and to be sure ones' pets are kept in the shade with plenty of water. You can't go anywhere that someone doesn't bring up the heat in their conversations. A few schools in our area are postponing start times until the end of August to conserve energy and the cost of keeping the classrooms cool. With these hot temps and no rain the foilage will start wilting and turning brown. I try to water potted plants and flowers at least once a day. They definitely let you know when they are thirsty.

The crepe myrtles and the cannas do well in this hot weather. They can withstand the heat and dry weather.  They will bloom all summer long with very little moisture.

I've always been hot natured so this is not my favorite time of the year. You don't have to tell me to stay in out of the heat. My sister(Ninny) loves this kind of weather. She is cold natured and wears warm clothing when she comes to my house. She says I keep it too cold for her. I guess I keep it too cold for our dog , Rowdy, because he loves to lay out in the sun every chance he gets.
So for the next month or so I'll be staying in and keeping cool and reading some good books. I might even break down and so some baking.

Eat lots of ice cubes. That way you can stand in front of the fridge door while they are getting them out! :)

I am not a fan of the heat either. We haven't had much hot weather this summer, but we still have August to get through. UGH!!

Here I sit in my cuddle robe while reading your blog post about the heat, LOL! I got the babies out to the kiddie pool and it was tolerable for me in the shade, although the temp was 100 * F. I like Jack Daddy's idea!

Hugs!

Enjoy reading your blog Christine. We were in Muskogee this past weekend to see Becki and it was HOT there. She was miserable. I do believe it is hotter there than here is Texas. I agree...stay inside where it is cool!
