Terrible Twos

Our oldest son and his wife went to a marriage retreat this weekend and my husband and I kept the girls. Our oldest granddaughter is eight and her little sister is two. This was the first time our youngest granddaughter had been away from her mother and daddy. It was also the first time we had kept her for that long. All I can say is, I'm glad her sister was here with us because she helped me a lot with the little one.

I know that this little sweet face looks adorable, and don't get me wrong, she is, but........ this is what I learned about keeping a two year old for the weekend.

1. Pick your battles.
2. Admire independence.
3. Have patience.
4. Remember, this too will pass.
5. Monday is a new day.
6. I'm too old for this.

The picture below is a picture of my oldest granddaughter after dealing with her sister all weekend. Her comment to me was, "I'm going to have to come back next weekend by myself for a break."

I promise this picture wasn't staged. She had had it with her little sister. Thank goodness her parents came to get them an hour after this. My husband and I have been resting all day today trying to get our energy back. It may take a few more days.

Our 2 1/2 yr. old grandson is a handle full when we keep him for a few hours. He's in that stage of crying when mom & dad leave. Oh, the drama! Wears us out (but we love it). I like your list, especially #6.

Smiles,
Carol

☺ ☺...number 6 cracks me up. I really don't know how so many women are having children later and later in life. They are really going to be "too old for this" when their grandchildren come along. What a little cutie pie she is, though! Hope that big sis, Grandpa and you have all recovered by now.

First...your g-daughters... I only have one grandchild but I remember when she was only two and I was aghast by her behavior at times. I couldn't believe how RUSTY I was in my parenting skills (g-parenting is soooo different). It was my daughter who was 17 at the time who I called to help me. I said "GET OVER HERE and HELP ME WITH YOUR BROTHER'S CHILD! HELP!!!!!" :)

Now...the comment you left for me had me laughing OUT LOUD. HAHAHHAHAHAHA I need to leave town. I do. I'm already fed up with everything and we just started. Maybe I need to call my girl again and tell her to get over here and HELP ME again! Bah!
