Dinner With Friends

There is an Amish family not far from where we live that opens up their home to the public on Friday and Saturday nights and cooks and serves a wonderful home cooked meal for a small fee. All the food is homegrown and raised on their huge farm/ranch.

A group of friends from our church get together and go eat there once a year. We starve ourselves all day anticipating this meal, because we know we are going to "pig" out. All the food is passed around the table in bowls and on platters. On the menu last night was roast beef, green beans, cold slaw, chicken and cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, noodles, rich creamy gravy and rolls served with apple butter. And if one isn't full enough, homemade lemon pie and/or strawberry pie is served for dessert. Every thirty minutes another group will come in and be served and before the evening is over the dinningroom is full.

Our group was the first to leave and needless to say we barely made it out the door. Knowing there is no way we can walk to our cars, we linger on the deck and visit and gaze at the beautiful scenes of the countryside around us. It's breathtaking. Northeastern Oklahoma is made up of rolling hills of trees and farmland. We've been fortunate to have good rains now and then so all the vegetation is still green.

We have all decided that we can't wait another year to come again to this great place to eat, so we plan to make this trek again during the holidays. Can you blame us?

It sure is pretty. Fanny and her daughters are wonderful cooks. I still remember her cinnamon rolls. The best I've ever had!

I've always wanted to have dinner at this home. I've heard many reports about how delicious the food is.

Smiles,
Carol

Sounds like such a neat thing to do! When I get back to western NY next summer, I have to hit up Amish country again. Been a few years.
