Rowdy Says

We left Rowdy at Noah's Ark while we went to Branson, Missouri for four days. He's letting us know he was not happy with that arrangement by pouting since we brought him home.  He didn't even beg for food when we ate dinner last night. He stays close to his Papa and avoids me. The ark was full to capacity when we left him so he didn't get much rest. He's been sleeping a lot and rarely moves from his place on Papa's chair.  Hopefully, in a few days he'll be back to his ole self.

Postnote from Rowdy:  Yes, I am pouting. They left me to dog gone long at that "place" this time and I am not a happy camper. How would you like it if you had to stay in a cage most of the time and listen to other dogs yap, yap, yap day and night. The food wasn't like what I get at home and the music wasn't my taste. Not one pedigree to talk to. Talk about boring. I've decided to pout because I've seen my Papa do it and it seems to work most of the time. So I am going to milk it for all it's worth. Maybe they will think twice about doing that to me again.

Happy Thanksgiving

The trees in our neighborhood, including our yard, are turning out to be really pretty. There is even a smell of fall in the air. Now all we need is cooler temps and we'll be in full swing. Cold air, and I mean really cold air, is predicted Thanksgiving Day in Oklahoma. Family and friends will be decending on our house that day and I can't wait. I love get-togethers with those that mean the most to me. Our house is clean and the hubster is preparing the main course. The house is decorated to the Thanksgiving hilt. What more can a girl ask for?   I won't be doing any blogs until next week so I can spend quaility time with family so I want to wish all my blogdom friends a Happy Thanksgiving and pray that the blessings will abound in your life in the days ahead.

Rowdy Says

When I got ready for bed last night this is what I found in it.

Seriously. I thought I was seeing things, so I closed my eyes thinking "it" might go away.

Nope, it was still there.

So I had to sleep on the rug all night.

When I got up this morning "it" was gone. So, I am camping out all day in my bed so it won't happen again tonight!

I am such a smart dog.

My Runnin Around Buddy

If you have been following Ninny's Notebook in the last year you know that we lost our dad a year ago today.  So much has happened in the last year since his passing. The birth of a new grandchild, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and other family events, all without having him there to celebrate. I miss his sweet smile and his teasing and I never went anywhere without him. He was my runnin buddy. All I had to do was call him and ask him if he'd like to go. I saw him everyday. I'd pick him up to go to church and he'd always ask me without fail, "Do I look alright?"  In other words, do my clothes match. Evidently, my mother had him change more than once before he could walk out the door!  When we lost my dad I grieved all over again for my mother. It finally hit me that my sister and I were orphans. The two people who were so much a part of our lives are gone.

Through it all, I know that they are together again and wouldn't want to come back to this life because they are where they want to be the most. They both were faithful servants of Christ to the end and are now rejoicing with others in Heaven. So today, more than any other day, I am thankful for God blessing my sister and I with loving parents who raised us to love God and keep His commandments.

This post is in loving memory of my dad, aka, Granddaddy.

Wal-mart Finds

Everytime I visit Wal-mart I end up spending two hours browsing. I actually go there to pick up a few items and come home with something I hadn't intended to buy. That's my trouble with stores that carry everything but the kitchen sink. I've been looking for new china to use for Christmas dinner for a few years now. (we usually use paper plates). I'll go to Dillard's and love what I see but don't want to spend $30.00 for one plate. Not for something I'll use once a year. In the past Wal-mart has carried some pretty cheap looking Christmas dinnerware but look what I found from Better Homes and Gardens, a new line they are offering now.

I love the pattern and the quality of the china is exceptional. Cost only $3.00 a plate!  Wouldn't a pretty red or berry dessert plate look good with it. They also sell a place setting for four of this pattern for around $25.00 but I didn't need cups and saucers, etc. I just don't have a place to store all of it.

I plan to use these plates for Thanksgiving. Another Wal-mart find. The dessert plates came in green, orange and purple and the color above. The dinner plates I already had (also a Wal-mart buy).

I went to Wal-mart that day to find ear muffs for our trip to Branson next week with my sister and her husband and found this little ditty instead.  I don't usually wear hats but this actually looked rather cute atop my head.

not my head

Is this cute or what? Cost $3.00 and comes in white, red, and black.  My sister will wish she bought one! Actually, I'd buy her one but I'm sure she won't want us to look like Twinkies. This is why I browse. You never know what you might find if you don't look.

More Scarves and Hats

I've been knitting a lot lately trying to get ready for the Christmas rush. I sell quite a few scarves and hats at my booth and then my daughter-in-law takes a few of them to the bank where she works and sells them there to her co-workers. They like to give them away as Christmas presents.

These are just a few of the ones I have knitted. If they all sell well then I will continue to knit a few more if I have the time. I visited a yarn shop in T-town a couple of weeks ago and saw some beautiful yarns but they were so expensive. All I did that day was druel and roll my eyes. One of these days I'll break down and buy some of those yarns but those scarves will be knitted for me.

For Little Girls

I knitted this little stocking cap for little girls 1-3 years to sell in my booth at Love's Briar Patch. I have knitted them in different colors and added ribbon and bows.  If they sell well and I  have the time I will make some that are a little larger for older girls, but I'm not going to pressure myself to get it done.

They take about an hour and a half to knit and about five dollars in yarn and ribbon to make. I really enjoy spending the evenings knitting. It gives me something to do while watching TV or just relaxing. I'm so glad my sister taught me how to knit. Thanks sis.

Lonesome Birdfeeder

This summer I haven't had much luck feeding the birds in our neighborhood. I put birdseed in the birdfeeder, but no birds. Couldn't figure out why since I've never had a problem before enticing them to the feeder. Then I noticed why I haven't seen any. A hawk was in one of our maple trees. Over a course of a week I saw him from time to time flying from one tree to another.

This has gone on for a couple of months and I really miss my birds. I decided to refill the feeder last week hoping the hawk had given up and had gone somewhere else.  I haven't seen him in awhile but the birds still haven't come back to the feeder. I'll keep waiting and hoping they will come back once winter is in full force and they come searching for food. That is if the hawk doesn't return. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions.

Giveaway Winner

There were seven entries in my 100th post giveaway but only one winner. Miz Liz of Miz Liz Pantry was the entry my hubby grabbed out of the bag. He had no idea why I asked him to do this and when I explained he still had a puzzled look on his face. He hasn't the foggiest idea about blogging.  Miz Liz, if you will leave an address in the comments (or in a fb message) I'll be happy to send you the scarf.

On to other news, our screened-in deck is FINISHED! Our contractor gave what for to the gutter company and the company that installs screens until they finally did what he hired them to do. In a small town like ours you don't have many choices who you do business with but he said he won't use either of these companies again. All in all, we have been very pleased with our contractor and the whole process.

We are getting some much needed rain today and more coming tomorrow. The trees have finally started to change colors and it is really pretty in our area of Oklahoma. This is the view from our kitchen window.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Our Veterans

My dad was 22 when he joined the Army during WWII. He wasn't married and knew our country needed him and others like him. My father-in-law was 35 with two young children and one on the way when he joined also. Though neither one saw combat they did go overseas to serve where they were commissioned. They were away from their families and the comforts of home.

My husband joined the U.S. Army National Guard when he completed college and served for twenty-eight years. He was trained yearly and spent many a weekend and summers away from me and our two sons so that he would be ready to serve if ever needed.

There is something very special about our men and women that are in or have served in the military. They share a patriotic camaraderie that unites them in times of peace and war. Many times I've seen my husband shed quiet tears after seeing a touching story on T.V. or after reading a story in the newspaper about another soldier. When one hurts, they all hurt.

Today I'd like to thank not only those in my family that have served, but the thousands of others who have served or are serving to protect our country and the freedoms we enjoy.

One Hundred

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday with my husband. It was quiet and passed uneventfully. That's the way I like them now. We did go out to dinner at one of my favorite BBQ restaurants which I really enjoyed. I also received many happy birthdays on Facebook and phone calls from grandchildren which was nice. I can also count on my sister to send me a funny card. This year it was about milk and sausages. I'll leave it to your imagination to figure that out. One of my husband's sisters sent me a card this time last month wishing me a happy birthday. That's what happens when you get to be her age!

I ate the whole thing!

One hundred is the number of posts that I have written as of today since I started blogging in July of this year. It is hard to imagine that I would have that much to blog about. A big thank you to my sister for getting me started and thank you to those who follow and leave me comments. That really means a lot to me. I count you as friends. So to celebrate, (my birthday and my 100th post), I am having a giveaway of one of the scarves that I have hand knitted like the one pictured below.

Leave a comment and then I'll put your name in a bag and let my hubby draw the lucky winner. The drawing will be this Friday.  (I regret that this giveaway is open to bloggers in the U.S. only due to the high cost of overseas postage.)

Thanks again for following.

Postnote about yesterday's blog:   Rowdy was telling me in "barklish" that his ball was under my dresser. And you thought he was singing.

White Christmas

While visiting another blog the other day I saw a little ditty like the one above and just had to make one. I just happened to have an old teapot and bought the tree at Hobby Lobby for two dollars and put some new and old ornaments on it and look how cute it turned out. Kinda has that shabby chic look doesn't it. I wouldn't have thought of this on my own and this is another reason I like to blog.

Scalped Again!

I went to my hair stylist yesterday to get a trim. Does this look like a trim to you? I call this the "scalped" look. Not what I had in mind. He actually said that he better quit with the scissors because he was having to much fun and hoped he wasn't in trouble. I hate it when someone is having fun at my expense. I told him he was scissor happy. I've never gone to a hair stylist that didn't do this to me. The only good thing is that I won't have to have a trim anytime soon.

Snails Pace

Our new screened in deck is moving along at a snails pace. Painters came last week and finished in two days. Now we are waiting on the electrician to install the fans and the gutter guys to come and install guttering. Also waiting on the screens to be installed. The guttering and screens had to be ordered, so will take a few days or weeks to come in. My question is, why weren't they ordered when the project was started. That, of course, would have been to easy. As you can see I'm having to learn patience. We went ahead and put the furniture out for our Halloween get together last weekend and I've been using it a lot this week because the weather has been wonderful. I am so glad we decited to do this but I just want it finished. Patience, patience.

Trunk or Treat

Late Sunday evening our church offered a Trunk or Treat to all the children of our congregation and their friends and anyone else who happened by. A few weeks ago my daughter-in-law ask me if I would help her with a trunk and I said sure. This event takes the place of door to door trick or treating and offers a safe activity for all. This was the first year that our congregation has participated in this event. Candy, face painting and an old fashion cake walk were just some of the fun things offered to children.

Our trunk was Cade and Rhett's Toy Box.

Face painting

There were a lot more trunks but I didn't get all the pictures of them. One of our members is in her mid 80's and had a trunk all decorated for the kids. I wish I had her energy! Fun is what it's all about but boy was I tired when I got home. It will take me another year to get over this Halloween and get ready for next year's activities.

I look ridiculous!  Thank goodness I just have to endure this holiday once each year.  Sometimes a dog's life is not cracked up to what it should be.

Good Memories

Being the doting grandparent that I am I volunteered our home for a Halloween get together for family and friends Saturday night. Hubby made a big pot of chili to go with the hot dogs and I made a peach cobbler and everyone else either brought cupcakes or cookies. We played games with the kiddos and everyone dressed up to some degree. Afterwards, the kids went Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood and then everyone settled in to watch the OU football game. I know the grandkids had a blast and that is what it's all about.
