Collection Corner - McCoy Pottery

A little over 15 years ago I started collecting McCoy pottery. It started with a sugar and creamer that my mother gave me. It was a wedding gift given to her and my dad when they married in 1947.  A few weeks after she gave them to me I was watching a Martha Stewart show where she featured McCoy pottery. There was the same sugar and creamer set. I jumped up and sure enough the McCoy signature was on the bottom of each. Both are shown below with the teapot that I found later. The cost for the sugar and creamer in the 1940's was $5.40 retail per dozen. That would be 45 cents per set. The tea set now  would cost between $75.00 to $100.00.

Look at the dust on this shelf. My, my.

Over the years I've bought and sold different pieces that I liked. I haven't bought any pottery in a few years mainly because I don't have a place to store or put them.  It would take a piece that really caught my eye and didn't cost an arm and a leg for me to buy it. Below are some of the pieces of pottery that I put out in the fall of the year.

                                                     Acorn Basket (1952)

                                             Rustic Flower Basket (1957)

                                                                    Baskets (1948)

                                                Flying Duck Planter (1955)

                                    Bird Dog Planter (1954)

I recently gave this particular piece above to our youngest son for his new home. He has always admired it.

                                                 Novelty Dish with Bird (1950)

These are just a few of the pieces that I own. When antiquing I can spot a McCoy right away. The only problem is that I don't see to many anymore except on Ebay or by individual dealers. In another post I will show some of the other pieces I have. Do any of you out there in Blogville own any McCoy?

I love the McCoy Rustic Line but only have one piece, a vase. Don't care too much for McCoy past the 50's, though, but the older stuff like you have is beautiful. And that's the stuff that's the most expensive these days, and also the stuff that is being reproduced. Aaaack!

Wonderful pieces. I don't have any McCoy pieces myself although I always admire them when I run across them.

I have a piece that you put letters in. It was my grandmas.
It says "Letters" on it.
