OUCH! Not For The Squimish

A very sweet friend of mine fell and broke her wrist about three weeks ago. The surgeon not only placed a rod inside her wrist but also put this contraption on the outside. It is attached to the bone. She has to wear it another three weeks before it comes out. Can you imagine trying to do day to day chores and sleep at night with this attached to your arm? Thankfully, at this point she's not in any pain. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Heard about this with someone, but never seen it! Very interesting though. I would be afraid it would catch onto somthing while sleeping.

I'm with Gloria....I just know I'd catch it on a cabinet knob or something and yank the thing out! I'm such a klutz, it wouldn't stay on for long.

Only on a leg that was broken very badly! How does she sleep?

It's an external fixation device. It helps keep the bone in place and heal properly. I would so love to see it close up. Studied this in July. Diddn't get to see one at the hospital. Maybe the fall semester.

One of my teaching coworkers fell on the ice several years ago and had one of these in her lower arm. She was single and had to have another teaching friend come by every morning to help her get dressed. What a trooper!

I have never seen or heard of anything like that. How in the world does that poor lady bathe?
