THE Closet

We have a hall closet that is a catch all for all the junk we own. Actually, truth be known, it's all my stuff. Decor items, things I don't use everyday, stuff we haven't used in years but can't part with, and hobby supplies (glitter, glue guns, etc.). You get the picture. About three times a year I get in the mood to clean it. This week I felt like it was time to tackle it once again. I mean, I couldn't even walk into it, that's how bad it was. Also, there are a lot of TV shows this month on HGTV that are giving out ideas on how to be more organized in your home.

First thing on the agenda of cleaning was to clear everything out of it. And I mean everything. What a mess. Secondly, I decided that if I haven't used it in a year it goes, eccept for heirlooms. I filled one box with garage sale items and a garbage bag with the rest. As I was refilling the shelves I had to decide once again if I really wanted to keep each item that I had decided to keep.  If not, it went into the garage sale box.

Deco items went back on the top and middle shelf along with hobby supplies. Tablecloths and bath and kitchen paper supplies on the bottom shelf along with odds and ends. On the floor of the closet is my sewing machine, and more deco items  in boxes.

I'm really proud of myself for getting this done. Last summer was the last time I cleaned it out and boy did it need it. I know this isn't a very interesting post and you're thinking that I must be really hard up for anything news worthy. You're right. But maybe, just maybe, I've inspired you to clean out one of your closets. I know one thing, I wouldn't want to clean out closets for a living.

I think we all need to be inspired to de-clutter our lives and it begins in our closets, purses, cabinets etc. Mine is my basement and boy is it a big job!

Christine,
It looks great. I would love to clean closets for a living!! Getting paid for something I love to do - how sick is that?

Hi Christine!! THANK YOU so much for your comment on my blog! I followed the bread-crumbs back to your blog and have really enjoyed my visit and reading your past posts! I also loved looking inside someone else's closet besides my own--It reminds me that I really need to and should do something about mine because you've made it sound pretty easy and it looks great!!

I hope you have a great weekend, and I look forward to following your blog and getting to know you! :-)

That is a task that must be done and good for you to do it! I am of the "scorched Earth" frame of mind when doing this sort of task.... EVERYTHING BUT EVERYTHING GOES!!! I feel like if I have stashed it away and not used it OUT IT GOES!

It is indeed dificult and even painful to discard "treasures" but it is all a state of mind (of course unless the treasure is a family heirloom that could be passed along to another family member's closet....)

Oh no! I love to read about the everyday things. This was really interesting to me and I enjoyed seeing this closet...what a great space for keeping your things. I love how some of your items are sitting out where.they.can.be.seen. That's a super idea!
