Honor Heights Park aka Thelma's Park

There is a park in Muskogee that is known for its' azaleas, roses and other flora when they are in full bloom. Visitors come from all over the state of Oklahoma to see the spring foilage. During the summer months patrons use the park for picnics and birthday parties. Once in a while there will be an outdoor wedding taking place in the rose garden.  A play park with playground equipment and a sprinkler pad is popular with the kids. Recently our youngest son and his family invited us to have a picnic with them one evening. Here are some pictures of our fun outing.
Having a picnic.

Enjoying the sprinkler pad.

Feeding the geese.

                                         Youngest grandson having a slide.

                                                       Posing for the camera.

Nana and Papa.

The park wasn't crowded that evening and the only noisemakers were the ducks and geese.

The sun was just beginning to set.

In April each year Muskogee has an Azalea Festival with a parade to welcome visitors to our area. People from all parts of the country will come just to see the azaleas in the park. There are hundreds of them in colors of white, pink, orange, lavender and red.  Dogwoods and redbuds will be in bloom also.  But for this time of year we will be enjoying the turning of the leaves on the hundreds of trees in the park.  When I was a child our family renamed the park after my mother (not officially) because it was her favorite place in Muskogee. When I was older my parents built a home within walking distance of the park.  Each time I go I think of her.

I've always wanted to make a trip to Muskogee for the Azalea Festival but we've never made it. Who knows, maybe next Spring.

We have never gone to the Azalea Festival, but it's on our list of places to take the girls. Maybe in the spring 2011 we'll take a little trip to Muskogee. Thanks for sharing the photos. It looks like a beautiful place!

Nice memories associated with this special place. Your grands are so cute...I see the little one enjoys sliding, too.

How nice to have a reputable place that you trust to leave your beloved pup. He looks none the worse for wear!
